Brown Earns New SANS Certificate

MEDINA, OH (Oct. 11, 2023) – Jade Brown, BA, C|EH, GCTI, a Cybersecurity Analyst at Vestige Digital Investigations – Cleveland office, has  earned a Certificate of Completion after completing the SANS Institute FOR528: Ransomware for Incident Responders course.

About the Course

The SANS Ransomware for Incident Responders course was developed to prepare specialists, including those who have responsibilities in areas such as Digital Forensics Investigation, Incident Response, Cyber Threat Hunting, and Cyber Threat Intelligence to:

•  Identify phases of a ransomware attack
•  Understand the practices to apply to reduce the risk and impact of a ransomware attack
•  Determine relevant courses of action to take when a ransomware attack occurs (from detection to response and post-mortem analysis)
•  Conduct investigations for organizations impacted by ransomware, recognizing the forensic artifacts left behind in an attack and the methods that may be employed to extract and analyze them

Capture the Flag Winner

In addition, the course included a Capture the Flag (CTF) challenge — which Jade won! During the CTF, participants compete against each other to solve labs in real time. The labs are designed to emulate real-world scenarios and test practical skills. In recognition for their efforts, SANS CTF winners are awarded challenge coins. Those who win a CTF associated with courses under SANS Institute’s Digital Forensic and Incident Response track earn the ranking of Lethal Forensicator. By winning the Ransomware for Incident Responders CTF, Jade demonstrates that she possesses the knowledge and skills needed to contribute to operations and investigations involving ransomware.

Jade joined Vestige in 2020. She earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Linguistics from Ohio University in Athens, OH. Jade served as an Ambassador for the Taiwan-U.S. Sister Alliance (TUSA) and was a TUSA Scholarship recipient.  She went on to earn a Graduate Program Certificate in Computer Forensics from Utica College, in Utica, NY. She leveraged her Mandarin and cultural expertise as an active participant in cyberintelligence forums on Chinese information warfare, denial and deception, and state actors.

Jade has several certifications. She has the Certified Ethical Hacker (C|EH) certification from the EC-Council. She also earned GCTI certification through GIAC / SANS Institute for Cyber

Threat Intelligence. Jade is a member of InfraGard – Northern Ohio Chapter.
